my growing collection of audio equipment. needed some place to share it that wasn't reddit; it's a website that's entirely for lurking, for me.
honestly? a classic for a reason. I can totally see (hear?) how these have stood the test of time for more than 40 years. modded with yaxi earpads, surprisingly made a huge difference in their sound and I didn't want to believe it. almost always paired with my moondrop dawn pro dac. thought I'd detest the amount of sound that gets through to my ears but I don't mind how open they are. all around the pair of headphones that changed my listening habits for the better.
my first foray into real iems. could definitely stop here. good weight, good sound. swapped out the cable with a much thicker one, adding to their heft. they feel studio-quality, though I may be completely off in that estimation. prone to muffled audio, unfortunately, but it just encourages me to clean them more thoroughly every few months. only downside (entirely self-inflicted) is that with the piercings I have, they can get kinda uncomfortable over longer periods. also usually paired with my moondrop dawn pro.
I don't want to say favorite because they're passable and they were $20, not that price determines how much I like a set of cans I've purchased. perfectly fine beat-em-up gym headphones that have good enough noise cancellation for my standards. if I left the apartment to work out, they'd live in my gym bag.
I don't listen to records a ton, but I love collecting them & hope to reinstate my vinyl wall someday when I have more wall space. eventually I'd love to have a dedicated listening area for storage, with better speakers and not a TV soundbar, but that's the reality of living in a one-bedroom, open-concept apartment.
my oldest pair of iems! they've been going strong for 7 years. lightweight, though the cable gets noisy. perfect for travel, though, since they're so compact. almost always paired with my hiby w3 to give them bluetooth capabilites.
these are just fine—they're a solid set of earbuds that I mostly use when working out, for meetings, or for taking phone calls. a utility workhorse that's been going strong for like, three years, and only now starting to show signs of wear battery-wise. I've come to dislike active noise cancellation and their touch controls, so I always leave them disabled.
again, these are fine. they're quite large and unwieldy, and the headband induces some low-level claustrophobia in me. also prone to dry rot, and I've had to replace it once already. thankfully, though, they're light and won't give me a headphone dent over time. as open-back, over-ear headphones, they're somehow worse at letting sound leak in than the koss porta pros. nuts. got them when massdrop was still good, ie, when they let you get in on group buys and get insane discounts. would not pay $400 for them, but sub-$100 I'd consider them worth it. they have a unique place in my arsenal as headphones I use when I need to heal piercings, as they don't touch my ears at all.
my least-used set of headphones. lowkey, I hate them. I got them as a gift one Christmas because I wanted a set of noise-cancelling headphones, which I've now come to dislike immensely. no amount of noise cancellation is enough and it's a shame that these were marketed as having it as a best-in-class feature.
